There are some details that alter the results, such as change in temperature, but the device is quite workable. The article says that it has been in the works for over a year, but it was finally presented at a conference in Spain just last month. Though it may not become a commercial device anytime soon, there are so many possibilities that could come with it. In the future, researchers hope to add smell and texture so you get the full experience of whatever you're doing.
My favorite possibility, though, is the thought of being in a movie and being able to taste and smell what the actor "supposedly it" as well. Though there are many bad possibilities that could come of this as well, we'd never watch movies the same way again. If this were to happen, though, people may not go because it's likely the prices would go up too much.
The last thing the article talks about is incorporating this into video games. It's really quite interesting because it discusses going on a reward system. For example, if the player were to beat a level, they would be rewarded with sweet tastes, but if they fail, a bitter or sour taste.
I like this idea, although I don't find it to be necessary in any way. We are already filled to the brim with new technology, but the fact that this is even possible makes it seem worth it. I can't wait for the day when I can go see a movie and be able to watch, feel, taste and smell what's going on. Does it seem a bit much? Maybe. Too soon? Never.
What other new technology will be thought of next! Because this new digital lollipop just seems so out there. But the app would also be so cool too! To be able to go to a movie and smell what the actor is eating would be a whole new experience. If I thought TV food commercials now were terrible temptations, I cannot image how good my resistance would be if we can actually smell the food!
ReplyDeleteThis is a crazy new technology that I had no idea was in the works. Just being able to have all the senses stimulated would be a cool experience. The technology that people have come up with these are out of my mind. I am not sure if I would want to spend a lot of money just to have this experience. I would at least want to try it once just to see what it was all about. I will think about this every time I see a food commercial.
ReplyDeleteI have done that quite a few times, where i see something on t.v. and i want that food product right now! That is so crazy to think that scientists are trying to let us taste what we are seeing! I am not entirely sure that i really like that or not. I think that the technology is increasing so much that it is hard to take it all in. I am interested to see what the future has in hold for us.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this before but I am glad i have now! This is brilliant! I think this would be a huge hit with movie and even games! I think that this leads to so many new possibilities. For example, war video games such as Call of Duty, someday might be able to advance technology by using things int heir game to bring things to life! They could even ad lights and some type of smoke that come out of the screens and stuff like that! This could also be the start of T.V.'s manufactured to give off smells, feelings (vibrations) and tastes rather than just sound and visual. This is great and I hope that inventions like this come out in my lifetime! Very interesting post!!
